The Golden Haggis Awards are a cornerstone event of the annual Oban Winter Festival, celebrating the very best of Scotland’s national dish. This prestigious competition attracts top haggis makers from across Scotland and England, including reigning champions and past winners, all competing for the coveted titles in the heart of Oban.

Event Details:

  • Date: Held annually on the last Sunday in November. For 2025, the awards will take place on Sunday, November 30th – St Andrews Day!
  • Location: The historic Oban Distillery, with the competition unfolding in the unique atmosphere of its cask room.

Competition Categories:

The awards feature two highly anticipated categories, allowing both expert judges and the public to crown their favourites:

  • The Golden Haggis Award (Judges’ Choice): This is the ultimate accolade, decided by an expert panel of judges who rigorously assess each entry.
  • The People’s Choice Award: An exciting opportunity for the public! Festival visitors are invited to participate in a special tasting session and cast their vote for their preferred haggis.

Entry Information for Haggis Makers:

To ensure the highest standards, entry to the Golden Haggis Awards is limited to one per business. Furthermore, all competing haggis entries must be produced on premises that have undergone inspection by their respective Local Authority.
